Geavity.com - An Introduction

What's In Your Bag?

Geavity is about to answer just that - by showcasing your gear! And if you have never heard of Geavity yet, here's a little introduction for you.

Geavity is the first social networking site created to primarily focus on photography gear. If you are looking for an outlet to show-off your gear and at the same time connect with photographers from around the world, this is THE place to be. In a nutshell, Geavity allows members to:
  • build your gear profile and showcase it to your friends around the world
  • search and add friends with similar interest and gear
  • join photography-related clubs
  • discuss and learn from people with similar gear
  • explore and discover gear that are popular in your circle of friends
  • influence peers by rating and discussing gear online
  • get opinion before buying a certain gear
  • get real-time updates on friends' updates
  • suggest new gear into our collection
  • keep track of your own gear

I've been keeping track of this site ever since I heard about it last year (a big Thank You to our fellow photographers who recommended this) and I have to say, it's steadily building up. What really surprises me this time is their recent announcement in entering the Twitter sphere!

Ever since I joined Geavity, I've been exposed to so many talents out there who share the same passion as I do. And now that Twitter is around, I can really look forward to much much more!

For those of us who simply can't live without Twitter, I must say I'm thrilled by how things work between Geavity and Twitter! Any gear updates I make on Geavity.com will automatically be posted on my Twitter account simultaneously. All I need to do to activate the feature was to check the Twitter option at my home page after logging in to my Geavity account. It's that simple!

For those of you who are interested in Facebook-ing your gear, you can also add the application by following these steps:
  • Go to http://apps.facebook.com/geavity/ after you have logged in;
  • Click on Yes when you are asked if you are an existing Geavity member;
  • Fill in your Geavity username and password to verify your account;
  • Your gear in Geavity should be featured in your Facebook Geavity profile now; and
  • Just click on  'Add to your profile' button to add to either your Wall tab or your Boxes tab.

That's not all! Within the site, there's a 'Signature Widget BB Code' feature that is really useful for us who love to customize our signatures in the forums we're active in. I've created my own image signature and flash slideshow recently, and it takes me only a few short minutes to create it. The widget is self generated, using pictures from my gearlist or wish list. I can then arrange the gear in my own preferred order (drag and drop the gear's thumbnail) to have it shown in the banner/slide show. The background and font color can also be further personalized using the preset color picker. The widget is a good attention grabber and a glamorous way to flaunt your gear.

Geavity is only in the Alpha stage now. But with the rate it's been growing, I foresee they'll be in the Beta test runs soon enough. I'm not a braggart really, but with such ease and simplicity, I don't see no harm showing off once in a while. Flaunt it!
