These ecosystems have very few trees because there isn't enough water to support them; instead tall grasses dominate the landscape which provide food for many different types of animals including deer, prairie dogs and bison. The soil in these ecosystems has low levels of nutrients so plants must be able to extract what they need from the air rather than from the soil itself like other plants do which means that grasslands often turn brown during droughts when there isn't enough rain to keep them green as well as causing fires due to lightning strikes during dry periods when fire danger increases due to lower humidity levels in this type of environment Deserts are one of Earth's harshest environments where it gets very hot during the day but it can get cold at night time because heat radiates off into space more quickly than it does at higher latitudes which causes an extreme temperature difference between day and night time temperatures; these types of environments also have very little precipitation meaning that plants struggle to survive here Rainforests make up about 6% of Earth's surface area yet they contain 50% of all plant species on Earth; rainforests also produce 20% of our oxygen supply Coral reefs make up less than 1% of Earth's surface area but house 25% percent of all marine life.
